Activiteca Overview

Activiteca is a center of educational materials and services in Honduras.Fractions at Club Activiteca / Fracciones

Activiteca's mission is two fold:

  1. To enable Honduran teachers to use high-quality learning materials that are otherwise unavailable.
  2. To offer direct educational experiences to the public.
Activiteca functions as a lending library (primarily of non-book objects and equipment, but also of books) to schools, along with teacher training. It also acts as an interactive museum for the public, using the materials in activities featured daily. There are 8 subject areas of materials.

Seeking: Science and Math Specialist for Activiteca

Job Description

  • Full-time, paid position. Occasional hours outside of traditional work week.
  • Provide input and guidance to all Activiteca activities involving science and math.
  • Plan and carry out teacher workshops in science and math, and other related events.
  • Design materials and activities in science and math areas to address identified learner needs.
  • Work with coordinator of Activiteca to carry out the following:
    - Plan and conduct activities for the public such as Club Activiteca, fairs, science circuses, etc. and train volunteers for such events.
    - Compose and correct instructions, communications, publicity, etc. in Spanish.
    - Work on the Activiteca web site as directed.
    - Participate in volunteer recruitment, publicity and fundraising events.

Hi, I’m Meghan Haslam, the new coordinator at Activiteca.

I am originally from New Hampshire, but have been living and working in Nicaragua for the last several years. From 2006 to 2009, I taught classes in environmental education, created the 4 Walls Project to improve housing conditions, and worked on various community development initiatives in El Sauce, León with the Peace Corps.
